Time is an ocean. It never stands still, whether we want it to or not. Sometimes it feels slow and quiet, other times fast and overwhelming. But time does not care. It keeps on moving.

The ancient Greeks had a saying: panta rhei - everything flows. The philosopher Heraclitus believed that nothing ever stays the same. “You can’t step into the same river twice,” he said, because both the river and the person have already changed.

But to me, a river feels narrow. Its water only ever moves in one direction. An ocean is different: it is vast, deep, and always in motion. You can’t see its shores on the other side. We don’t watch it flow by; we live in it. Time surrounds us in the same way. And whether we want it or not, it is changing us too.

We often try to hold onto moments, relationships, and versions of ourselves like shells gathered on the shore. Yet nothing stays the same. Change doesn’t happen occasionally or if we need it. Change is the nature of life.

And maybe there is beauty in that. Not to resist the current, but to let go, and to learn to move with it.
